Bindges Winery

The half-timbered building housing the Weingut Bindges was built at the beginning of the 17th century as the farmhouse of an Eifel monastery. In reference to the rose festival that was held here in Rißbach until the early 20th century, popular tradition has given the building the name ‘Rosenhof’. Located on the outskirts of the town, it survived the Traben-Trarbach fires and is therefore one of the oldest houses to have retained its original half-timbering. It has the unusual feature of having been built in solid timber right up to the gutter.

Jennifer and Christian Bindges acquired the Rosenhof in 2018 and renovated it until 2024, following the advice of the Historic Monuments Service. All the interior and exterior half-timbered walls have been restored in historic adobe. The entrance door has been reproduced from a 19th-century photograph. The roof is covered in natural slate.

Inside, a spiral sandstone staircase has been restored and embellished with a forged balustrade. It leads up to the attic. Only clay or pure lime renderings were used, with lime or silicate paints. During the renovation, the beams were stripped bare and only materials typical of the region were used (slate, clay, lime, oak, yellow sandstone).

Since 2019, the ground floor has housed the wine library. Interior architect Philippe Bauer designed the layout. He has preserved its historic character while adding modern components.
