Rudlingen Castle - A Garden of France

Located on the left bank of the Moselle, a stone's throw from the three borders, Rudlingen Castle is close to the castle of the Dukes of Lorraine in Sierck-les-Bains, for which it was probably used as a hunting lodge. The building was constructed in the mid-18th century, in a style reminiscent of the nearby castles of Schengen and Rollingergrund in Luxembourg. However, its origins are older, as the cellars that still exist date back to the 12th century.

The owners, Laurent Balon and Italo Di Lorenzo, bought the estate in 2004. Over five years of work, they rebuilt the roof, heating and electricity, and also created a charming romantic garden open to the public within the castle grounds, one of the last remaining in the Moselle. The location is so picturesque that it has been used as a backdrop for several film shoots.

The atmosphere of this place, which borders the river at the foot of the Stromberg hills, invites you to linger. This is fortunate, as the vineyards surrounding the estate produce excellent wines made by Henri Ruppert, a talented Luxembourg winemaker based in Schengen.

It is now possible to taste the crémant, Rieslings, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and eaux-de-vie of the Domaine du Château de Rudlingen from its terrace, almost with your feet in the water. These wines can be accompanied by cheeses or charcuterie, all produced by local artisans.
