Being ahead of your time means accepting that others might misunderstand or even actively oppose your work.

Corinne Kox-Sunnen and Yves Sunnen faced those reactions when they first converted vineyards from their long-standing family winemaking operation to organic cultivation.

The move earned the siblings scorn at the time. Sunnen-Hoffmann would go on to become the first estate in the grand duchy to bear the label “Bio Lëtzebuerg”.

Today these pioneers’ wines, laden with prizes and medals, are counted among the finest in the nation.

On their two open tasting days, in spring and autumn respectively, interested parties can get a closer look at the operation in the heart of Remerschen.

With its honest blend of tradition and acceptance, the property is well worth a visit: the winery building dates to 1872, with a rust-red façade that lends it both a refined and friendly feel inside and out.

The modern space includes quarry stone walls, black-and-white photography and large oak barrels that foster a hint of winegrowing romanticism.

The estate also offers an educational programme, welcoming primary school children to learn in playful ways about the work of the winegrower.
