Every year on the second weekend of September, Grevenmachern beckons visitors to the “Drauwen-a Wäifest”, the Grape and Wine Festival. And come they do.
Ten thousand attendees are typically on hand for the grand parade and coronation of the wine queen.
Yet no sojourn to Luxembourg’s wine capital should go without a visit to the Caves de Grevenmachern.
The winemaking cooperative is Luxembourg’s leading still wine and crémant producer as well as the oldest of the six wineries that form the association of the Domaines Vinsmoselle.
Roughly 200 growers along the Moselle contribute grapes from locations between Wasserbillig and Schengen. Together the members cultivate two-thirds of the total vineyard space in the Grand Duchy.
The winery in Grevenmacher was founded in 1921.
The current building, dating back to the 1920s as well, was built for function but has many notable details. Its most eye-catching elements include the contemporary facade and the lantern cupola on the roof.
In the interior of the building, the open roof beams in the grand hall give the space a distinctive accent. Visitors are welcome to taste, shop and celebrate.
