Things are bustling in the “Caves du Sud” at the edge of Remerschen.
While the outer façade resembles other buildings in the Vinsmoselle cooperative, the inside of this winery represents its own unique tasting space. Its wine bar has been built in the shape of an ancient Roman ship, ready for ‘pröbeln’, the Luxembourgian word for tasting.
In summer, visitors can luxuriate on the sun terrace with a glass of wine from the Luxembourg Mosel.
The winery was first built in 1948, but its design reflects a formal architectural language more common in the early 1930s.
The entry to the winery actually sits within the town of Schengen, where the legendary treaty was signed in 1985.
The Caves du Sud honours this heritage through its “Coteaux de Schengen” range that today is one of the calling cards for the entire Domains Vinsmoselle.
Wine fans know to circle 1 May early on their calendars.
That’s when the six Vinsmoselle wineries hold a traditional “Proufdag” (tasting day) in Remerschen, where the majority of the wines and crémants from the new vintage are available for tasting.
