Riesling-Manufaktur Rebenhof wine estate

If you cross the Mosel near the town of Ürzig, be it by federal motorway or ship, it would be hard to overlook the striking construction at the edge of the community.

All eyes are drawn to the glossy grey and black cube of Johannes Schmitz of the Rebenhof winegrowing estate, sitting alone out in the vineyard. 'Riesling-Manufaktur' (‘Riesling Manufactory’) is inscribed in golden script on its façade.

It is an echo of the hues of the shimmering Rieslings maturing in glittering stainless steel tanks.

While a sea of vines sways on the outside, a fascinating set of architectural features on the inside tantalize the curious with a view of the winemaker’s work.

The ‘manufactory’ is much more than just a tasting room.

The slate, steel and glass building also holds the pressing house, maturation cellar and sales rooms, as well as a small wine bar.

The wine cellar is directly linked to the tasting zone, with only a glass wall separating them. It is a remarkable experience.

For those who enjoy tasting al fresco, a terrace is situated directly in the Ürziger Würzgarten. Take a seat and luxuriate in the gorgeous views of the Mosel and steep Ürzig sites.
