Reverchon wine estate

In the winegrowing towns along the Saar, the passing centuries gave rise to a series of majestic estate houses and wine castles.

The Reverchon wine estate in the 300-soul town of Filzen stands alone, however, with its manor house in the Swiss country style.

The estate’s roots reach back to the 17th century. From 1921, the Reverchon banking family began using the estate house as a summer residence.

The family arranged for a wine cellar, including a pressing house and carriage house, to be constructed. Over time it grew into a prominent address for fine wine.

Roughly 90 years late, entrepreneur Hans Maret took over the estate, which had fallen into financial difficulties.

Maret, a wine aficionado, invested heavily in the reconstruction of its operations and a gentle renovation of the historically listed country house from 1880.

Today it stands resplendent, surrounded by a marvellous park and absolutely enchanting with its faded pink façade and green shutters.

Four stylishly appointed holiday flats and two double rooms are on property and available for booking.

A tasting room also offers the estate’s fine range of still and sparkling wines.
