Bastgen wine estate in Monzel

Authentic, minimal intervention wines through the labour of their own hands — that was what inspired Mona Bastgen and Armin Vogel to found their winegrowing estate in 1993.

Today their vineyards encompass roughly five hectares on the notable classified vineyards of Juffer Sonnenuhr in Brauneberg, Paulinshofberg in Kesten and Weisenstein in Bernkastel-Kues.

Over the years, the pair has increasingly shifted towards bio-organic cultivation methods. Their work has been certified organic for over a decade now and they are members of the German branch of Ecovin.

Nature plays a role in the estate’s architecture as well. For one, the wood facades on their buildings blend harmoniously into the landscape. The estate sits on an exposed overlook above the centre of the city.
Wood is also the dominant material in the interior of the tasting room — known as the “Wein Bau”. Its floor-to-ceiling windows provide a fine view out over the green Mosel landscape.

One special bonus: the winemaking couple works closely with a chef friend, allowing them to offer culinary accompaniment to their tastings for groups of 4+.
