Opening time :
A marriage of elegant architecture and viticulture — that goal was already in the sights of this family's forebears. It can be seen in its striking wine trading building, erected in 1896 and still prominently visible on Trarbach's Mosel shore.
The history of the Klein winegrowing family stretches much further back, however: its love for wine has been passed down from generation to generation for almost 450 years. Ulrike Boor and her husband Markus Boor assumed the reins of the estate from her parents Louis and Marita Klein much more recently, just ten years ago. But her rise brought changes, including a switch to organic cultivation.
The estate also owns the 'Kirchengut Wolf' — a property that likely represents the only wine cellar located directly under a church. It was constructed in the late 15th century by a fraternal order that lived in what was called the ‘Wolfer Cloister’ on a hill above the town.
On the third weekend of each September, when the town of Wolf holds its street festival, wine can be enjoyed in the vaulted cellars below the sacred house. For those who can't wait, the tasting room at Weingut Louis Klein is open throughout the year, offering visitors the chance to sample the wines in their lovely Trarbach building along the banks of the Mosel.
