Opening time :
The “Grünhaus” name says it all. Situated just ahead of where the Ruwer flows into the Mosel, this estate sits out in a heart of green.
The discovery of clay shards and grape knives offers evidence that wine was grown here as far back as Roman times.
The first documented mention of the buildings at this site dates to 966, when it belonged to the Benedictine abbey of St. Maximin in Trier.
After secularisation and repeated changes in ownership, the famous steel industrialist Carl Ferdinand Freiherr von Stumm-Halberg purchased Grünhaus in 1882.
He expanded the estate into one of the most modern of its time before gifting it to his daughter on the occasion of her marriage to Conrad von Schubert.
Maximin von Schubert, who represents the sixth generation of the family to run the estate, today lives with his family in the castle.
The aristocratic ensemble with stepped gables is beautiful inside and out. Its residential portion was built in 1638, while the adjacent Gothic-styled Marienburg followed in 1860.
Wines from this richly traditional estate are no less distinguished, with numerous awards paying tribute to their outstanding quality.
